Google isn't just a software company. The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As an Operations Engineering Intern, you'll install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (like servers and its components). You'll also tackle the configuration of more complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches and networking protocols. A typical day involves manual activities such as movement and installation of server racks and replacement of hardware components, and while it can sometimes be physically demanding, you are excited to work with infrastructure that is at the cutting-edge of computer technology.
Behind Google’s simple search box is one of the most complex technology infrastructures in the world. And behind that infrastructure is a diverse group of Googlers who design, build and keep the lights on for our users.
Our Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future, and our technicians, engineers, and support teams bring ideas to life. The teams use creative approaches to reduce operational costs and to extend traditional practices to meet our goal of making our data centers the most energy efficient and environmentally sustainable in the world.
With this in mind, Google has launched our first Data Center Intern program in 2015. Current students majoring in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering and geography are encouraged to apply. This program is open to all university students and is committed to addressing diversity in our company and in the technology industry. At Google, we don’t just accept difference - we celebrate it, we support it, and we thrive on it for the benefit of our employees, our products and our community. Google is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and is an affirmative action employer. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, or Veteran status.
We will have Data Center Intern opportunities in 2 data centers this year in Europe: Belgium and Finland. We invite you to join us for the 2015 Data Center Intern program!
You should be available to intern for a minimum of 13 weeks.
